Kenwood 51 – King 48

This was a neighborhood clash a capacity crowd filled King High ready to take in a red-central tussle, throw records and hype out of the window in this one!  6-1 junior Zion Morgan sealed the victory for Kenwood making one out of two foul shots for a 51-48 conference win, ending King’s bid for an upset.  Morgan finished with 7 points in a highly contested rivalry game.  King H.S. was where he played his freshman season and parts of last season before transferring in the 2nd semester to Kenwood.  “The best player on the court in this game was King H.S. senior forward Jesse Young a six foot three athletic stud.”  He played like all chips were-on-the-line-going for 28 markers and a dozen or more rebounds.  He was a terror on the base-line registering 4 dunks in a traffic.  The atmosphere was in mid-season form unusual for an early season tune-up, both teams competed like it was a play-off setting.  Kenwood’s 6-8 sophomore Manny Patterson (12 pts) illustrated a couple of exhilarating dunks, marking why he is highly considered to be a top prospect in the 2017 class.  He’s still somewhat raw offensively, his portfolio on the offensive end consists of dunks/put-backs he needs to add an assortment of face-up jumpers to go with the jump hook.   He’s already a chiseled youngster physically.  Kenwood’s other blue chipper Nick Robinson a 6-6 junior being courted by the likes of Georgetown and some other high-majors often showed blemishes of why he could resemble a Paul White clone (Young 2014 alum) when he matures and understands situations better doing stretches of a game.  Robinson dropped in 14 pts - 12 boards during the contest.  King just couldn’t muster-up enough ammunition to pull-off an upset, they were plagued late by missed free-throws, ill-advised long-distance 3 pt attempts and sprinkled in with some missed lay-ups.  “But Jesse Young is a player to watch.”
