Conference Showdown
Whitney Young 80 – Orr 66 (4:00 Tip)
After a slow start, the Dolphins trounced the pesky Orr squad who opened the game as if they would route the Dolphins. Guard Darryl Curry and freshmen dandies Raekwon Drake 6-4 and Kenyon Duling supplied enough arsenal early to make this red-west match-up interesting. They performed at a pace you would have thought they were gearing up for some run at the local YMCA. Never-the-less Young’s surplus of talented under-classmen was just too much for Orr. Vanderbilt recruit Joseph Toye had a marvelous game, no one could match-up with him, junior stand-out Rodney Herenton came off the bench to tally in double digits; but the display viewing belonged to sophomore Willie Herenton, a silk-smooth PG, six foot four forward Lucas Williamson who does plenty of handy-man type duties, freshman shooter Justin Boyd at 6-2 looks like stardom awaits, while freshman play-maker Xavier Castenada provides some nice punch off the bench. Orr’s Raekwon Drake will enter the conversation as one of the top 5 first year players in our state. He’s a physically gifted athlete and a monster in the paint already. “This was a fun game to view because of so many talented youngsters on the main stage.
