One-time Illinois signee Javon Pickett has decided to play next season at University of Missouri. Which makes the six foot four wing guard another significant addition to the Tiger’s roster.

One-time Thornridge star Townsend Orr was hired as Head Coach at Thornton Fractional South. His knowledge & energy will serve him well as he looks to instill a winning brand of hoops at South-Suburban school. Townsend, knows it’s an uphill climb.

Down-state talented guard Donovan Moore could leave the state after the summer. The six foot three athletic scorer from Hillsboro (IL) located in central Illinois is rumored to be heading to the state of Michigan. Moore, a 2019 Top 10 prospect in our state hoops with Illinois Irish, while most observers peg him as a legitimate Mid-Major+ recruit!

2021 Class will be a very talented cast, ---

2021 Class will be a very talented cast, we’ve already witnessed some serious game from many of them.

At the recent UIC Team Camp I got my first look at the 5-9 eighth grader, Ismail Habib hooping with Lincoln Park H.S. This play-maker “is a bad dude” plays with a wealth of confidence, already knows how to orchestrate offense while managing a game. “Yep, he can score also!” Schaumburg’s six foot seven Chris Hodges turned some heads with a stellar performance at the cross-roads event in Indianapolis last weekend. Patrick Baldwin Jr. will likely head-line the class as one of the Top 3 highly recruited prospects in the group by the time their sophomore campaign rolls around. The 6 foot 6 Baldwin will play at Loyola Academy next season. Guard Anthony Sayles has drawn comparisons to a young Derrick Rose. At 6-1 he punishes defenders attacking the rim. Down-state Robinson (IL) 6-2 guard Branden Childress suits-up for an Indiana Club Team; he is regarded as a promising star in that area. Six foot five athlete Jalen Butler will be highly touted freshman at Niles Notre Dame. 6-1 guard Darius Duff is already drawing waves with his play at Waukegan.

ILLINOIS TOP 2020 PLAYERS TO WATCH THIS SUMMER

CHICAGO AREA HIGH-SCHOOL COACHES TURN-STILE

My least favorite time of the year

Plainfield Central Head Coach Steve Lamberti has stepped down after 9 seasons, his departure will allow him more time with his family. Former Central Alum, Gregg Bayer will replace Steve next season. “The fashionable Donnie Kirksey returns to the side-lines after a year off.” After observing the whole climate and processing our area hoop scene, he decided it was time to return. He replaces long-time Vocational Coach Chris Pickett, who veered south to Kankakee. Kirksey, a former Assistant at UIC under Howard Moore has been successful at the High-School level with stints at Hyde Park and Julian; Donnie’s un-yielding force should provide us with a colorful attraction in the newly realigned red-south-central conference-where he will get tangled up in some emotional bouts with the likes of Simeon, Morgan Pk, Bogan, Kenwood, Curie, Hyde Park, and Harlan. We are expecting him to flourish at his Alma-Mater. Old-Gold founder Antonio Wiltz, a long-time Assistant at Vocational under Pickett will be Javon Mamon’s right-hand man at Hyde Park Academy. Wiltz, is highly regarded in Chicago area hoop circles. Former DePaul stand-out and Peoria Manual legend, Willie Coleman will lead his Alma-Mater, recently being named Head Coach, replacing Derek Booth who stepped down to focus on his administrative duties.

U-HAUL MOVEMENT

Expect an influx of transfers through-out our state

I’m sure some of these family decisions will leave us misty-eyed, obviously some will be subjected to some criticism. This list will grow swiftly.

Six foot-three wing guard Zion Young from nearby Merrillville, Indiana will hoop at Simeon next season. The 2018 Grad hooped at Wasatch Academy in Utah last season. On the ranking in-state grid, he falls under top 10.
