Leo 64 – De LaSalle 58
In a catholic league crossover game Leo prevailed in an emotional played contest. The game was played in the Lions pint-sized 3rd floor gymnasium where sometimes crowds can be quite hostile. “This night no different.” Leo jumped out early to a 23-12 first quarter edge, behind a swarming defense and a 16 pt quarter by junior forward Darias Oliver, who would finish the half with 20 points. Meanwhile De LaSalle made a run closing the deficit to a 47-42 with just under the 3 minute mark to go in the 3rd, sparking the De LaSalle surge was the emotional play of Iowa signee Brandon Hutton (who fouled-out with 16) and LaSalle recruit Karl Harris who finished with 14 pts. But the night belonged to Oliver an under-the-radar scorer whom bagged a career high of 36 markers and he went for 12 of those points in the critical 4th quarter dashing away any hopes of a De LaSalle comeback. Oliver, had his offensive arsenal on full display; he’s a very good athlete who filters the lanes well in the break, has a deadly pull-up jump-shot, he also shoots the long ball well, more importantly he’s a smart and crafty scorer. “Yes, he will flush it on you as well.” A10, Conf-USA, Valley, Horizon and MAC conferences should be in the high pursuit. Leo junior point guard Darius Branch was shrewd & clever, he easily falls on the board as one of the top play-makers in the 2016 class, he chipped in with 13 points & 8 assists. De LaSalle’s talented junior guard George Willborn tallied only 5 points on a night he could never get on track.
