HARD FACTS

HARD FACTS

What has happened to college basketball in Illinois?  For the second consecutive season no single Division One Program in the state will participate in the NCAA Tournament when Illinois State roped Wichita State and then came out the next day and built a 33-15 lead on Northern Iowa, the state’s hoop junkies were bracing for a tournament berth, but then the bottom fell out from under the Red-Birds during the 2nd half of play.  The most glaring issue that our area coaches would never acknowledge is the fact that a high percentage of them are saddled with players on their roster who aren’t talented enough to compete at a high-level night in & night out.  Secondly too many of our state coaches smother the game with over coaching, just to sit and watch the strangulation is nerve wrecking, unnecessary complexity.

Illinois-Chicago let go favorite son Howard Moore after five seasons and a 49-111 record.  Moore finished the season 10-24, “he will land on his feet swiftly.”

Southern Illinois Edwardsville fired Lennox Forrester, he spent eight years at the helm for the Cougars, posting a career record of 82-146, including a 12-16 mark this past season.  “Anticipate more changes coming in the next few days.”

Hot-shot St. Charles East point-guard Cole Gentry gave a verbal to South-Dakota State.  The Summit League just may be a situation that fits perfectly for him.  Gentry had a great season.

It will be interesting to see what Illinois does with under-achieving Plainfield East guard Aaron Jordan.  He’s not considered a top 15 player in our state regardless of class.  It was mind-boggling observing some of his unproductive outings this season.
