Public League Quarter Finals
(Sun – Feb 15th, 2015 – Site: Chicago State University)
The public league administrative officials did a nice job organizing/managing the city schools marque event, unfortunately the product on the floor didn’t live-up to ambience. Out of a four game set, only one might have been considered a nail biter. “Bring on the state finals.”
(15)Uplift 83 – Orr 69
Uplift ran out of the gate with a statement, which meant they were prepping for their next opponent which will be Simeon. Orr played hard and competed, but they were totally out-classed in this match-up from the tip. Uplift’s collection of potential division one players stood out through the lopsided affair. 6-3 PG – Daniel Soetan tallied 23 points, after junior college we envision a slew of mid-majors DI’s positioning for his services. Wing Deshon Flukes sparkled as well, displaying some serious explosiveness in the open-court, he also looks like a mid-major wing guard after juco. Thin spot-up shooter Spencer Foley had 22 points, he has interest from Dartmouth and Wofford. Jamaya Wyatt recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds.
(2)Simeon 70 – North Lawndale 41
Completely dismantled North-Lawndale, while playing little used players including six foot six senior forward Anthony Campbell who opened some eyes with his shot-blocking ability. Zach Norvell finished with 17 points and Iowa bound guard Isaiah Moss 13. Fred Sims Jr. was the only North-Lawndale player in double figures with 15 and they were mostly tough buckets. Ken Perkins Jr. could never get untracked.
Whitney Young 63 – Hyde Park 40
Hyde Park was no match for defending 2014 City Champs Young and Joseph Toye, he went for 21 points and 9 rebounds while handing out 5 assists. Rodney Herenton had 13 and his brother Willie a sophomore point-guard came up with 10. Hyde Park had an easy route to the quarter-final round knocking off a young Westinghouse team and a lowly Carver squad. Martin Oliver a senior for Hyde Park – heading to Central State was a bright spot, junior college bound forward Antoine Pike has to become more productive during a course of a game, he’s too athletic not to make an impact. Hyde Park needs guards badly in their program.
Bogan 51 – Kenwood 41
The game was closer than the final score indicated. The match-up would feature some notable junior prospects. Never-the-less none of them had us “so called body language experts” grasping for their next outing. Bogan pulled away when senior forward Antonio Thomas scored five clutch points to close out the Broncos. U. Mass recruit Luwane Pipkins led Bogan with 16 markers and he finally showed leadership his team so badly needed from him, junior James Jones chipped in with 10 and Tom Johnson with 8. Kenwood received 12 points from junior wing guard Zion Morgan and fellow junior Nick Robinson pitched in with 7, but senior spark-plug Rahman Katumbusi scored 10 including some big baskets late, but it wasn’t enough.
