BEHIND THE CUFF
The college basketball world is a cruel business. The last few days I’ve had a difficult time wrapping my brain around the realities that a coach with a job already in place and he’s working extremely hard to achieve his team’s goals. Although his numbers may not be a real indicator of some of the blind-sided circumstances he’s had to deal with during a season, but then you have agents and search firms quietly working in some capacity with his administration, sniffing around looking for candidates to fill his position in January – early February. “I certainly can’t grasp that concept of thought at all.”
The Donnie Boyce era at Proviso East came to an end, he complied an 84-13 mark in 3 seasons at his alma-mater. He was suspended with pay in December after a scrap broke out in the school’s cafeteria and Boyce a security guard had to restrain a student. A cell phone video surfaced and you can imagine what happened from that!
Sophomore sensation Alonzo Verge Jr. put on a dazzling display Saturday night, 2-14-15, recording 37 points – 7 rebounds – 4 assists – 5 steals; he’s the best 2nd year player in the Chicago area. “This kid is worth the price of admission.”
