Top Available 2016 Prospects

Top Available 2016 Prospects

With the season less than a week from being over, our state still has some bona-fide unsigned mid-major recruits still on-hand.  In fact most of the 13 have qualified academically.

1.                               Mike Smith 5-10        PG MM     Fenwick – Shrewd general regarded as the purist play-maker we have in the class.  Will likely land in the Ivy League; that conference will notice his abilities immediately.  His Friar squad was upset by St. Joes in the Westinghouse sectional title game.

2.                               Nick Rakocevic           6-9 F/C       MM     St. Joseph – He substantiated recently what his game entails too.  The sometimes wacky charismatic big fella demonstrated in the Westinghouse Sectional versus North-Lawndale that he can impact a game by patrolling the paint with scoring, rebounding & blocking shots.

3.                                Nick Robinson          6-5 G/F      MM     Chicago Kenwood – In viewing him late in the season, you could see his floor game flourishing.  He’s definitely a versatile asset that could be featured in multiple roles.  Loss in overtime to Curie in the River-Side Brookfield Sectional title game.  Missouri Valley, A10 recruit.

4.                               Matt Chastain             6-6 G/F      MM     Leroy H.S. – We will gleefully give him props, he had the platform this past weekend to show a large audience what his game looked like and the small town lad didn’t disappoint.  He guided his team to a 1A title defeating Chicago Leo.  Chastain is the top small school player in the state.  Utah, Loyola-Chicago, Valpo and swandering Illinois State have serious interest.

5.                               Lorenzo Edwards       6-7 SF        MM     Lake Forest – This blossoming south-paw had a strong season, now he’s sorting through a surplus of interest he forged during his season.  Duquesne and Butler may be serious pursuers.

6.                               George Wilbourne III  6-3          WG      MM     DeLaSalle – Quietly this Catholic school has produced a number of division one players the last 5 or 6 seasons and he’s in line to be one of the dandies to come out of the proud South-Side archdiocese.  Athletic wing who can score – James Madison recent coaching departure might have railroaded his route.

7.                                Zion Morgan            6-1 G          MM     Chicago Kenwood – His audition was cut short in an over-time loss to Curie Friday night.  He was vital to his team’s success this season.  Improved his ball-handling and perimeter shooting.  Horizon League could be his link to some instant success.

8.                               Darias Oliver               6-4 F          MM-LM+        Chicago Leo – Had a stellar showing during the 1A State Final where he led his under-dog Lions to the title game, before dropping it to Chastain’s Leroy (IL) squad.  Averaged 15 rebounds and 15 points during his 2 game display.  OVC and Summit league schools need to pursue.
9.                               TaJuan Agee              6-7 F          MM-LM+        Chicago Hyde Park – Activated his game too late in a two point loss to Mount-Carmel in a regional final.  A wealth of talent, could benefit enormously from a red-shirt campaign.

10.                           Dulan Scott 6-2          G    MM-LM+        Chicago Farragut – In my lens he’s more effective off-the-ball.  He can get a shot or create for his mates, his hapless outing versus Fenwick in a big game sectional semis didn’t diminish my thinking of his abilities.  WAC, OVC and Summit should show him some love.

11.                           Christain Peevy           6-5 G/F      LM+-LM          Mount-Carmel – All Catholic League performer, played a pivotal role in his team’s surprising success.  Lost a close game to Morgan Park in the St. Laurence sectional semi-final.  The slender scorer’s all-around play was noteworthy.  Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and SIU-E have interest.

12.                           Miles Howard             6-7 SF        LM+-LM          Marian Catholic – Could very well land in the Ivy or Patriot league.  His performance versus Simeon in the Bloom Sectional gave him something to build on.  Howard could be an intricate part to a roster with talent.  He’s a rebounder, passer and shot rejector!

13.                           Kevin Kreiger              6-6 F          LM+-LM          Plainfield North – Did not fashion himself well enough to build off of an excellent summer he had; intriguing player; it was hard for him to embrace the fact that he had to have his game activated every outing; good athlete and a streaky shooter; he teased audiences most of the time.
