Ronald “Chops” Billinger Memorial Classic

February 1st & 2nd, 2019

Friday Site: Wells High-School
Saturday Site: Whitney Young High-School

On Friday night I walked into Wells H.S. to take in some ball games at the Annual Chops Classic and was instantly connected to a vibe/frequency that embodied just how special this event has been, particularly in recognizing our friend and remembering his true love & passion for the game. Just to mentally process that he’s been gone since 2004 is mind-boggling.

Nothing but love, respect & admiration for event head Vince Carter and his storied Demon Program/foundation they have eloquently cultivated Chicago through the years with their charitable work and the abilities to connect & empower individuals in need. In fact, many of us around the city tend to be awfully impressed with the collection of fine young men that has grown-up in the Demon Program. Founder Vince Carter has proudly assembled a very special alumni listing. The event featured local boys & girls’ games, sprinkle in several California teams out of Oakland and you have a recipe for innovative venue. Just imagine if you could pencil in yearly, perennial figures Curie, Westinghouse, & Crane to go along with supportive participants Farragut and Marshall it would totally solidify “Chop’s” West-Side supremacy.
