On The Scene

On The Scene

After scuffling around in July tracking our Illinois kids, then lingering at the Global Challenge held a Whitney Young High-School (August 13-16th), I came away from those venues convinced that the 2016 class nationally has some terrific prospects.  NBA personnel already have 25 on radar to follow.

The folk’s down-in-the Carbondale area have every reason to be exuberant about the two 2018 diaper dandies:  6’3” guard Darius Beane and six foot five forward Khalil Acree both highly billed as freshman starters who will join under-rated senior play-maker Allen Billinger.  All 3 we should see Sept. 7th at the Spot-Lite Jam.
The Morgan Park tandem of Torry Johnson and Lamont Walker settled on their whereabouts for 2014-15 season.  Walker will attend John A. Logan and Johnson will head out west to Northern Arizona University.
Felipe Phillips, one of our states bright young coaches, decided to step down at Decatur-MacArthur H.S. to focus on pursuing his master’s degree.  Hopefully, he can join Blake Turner’s Lanphier program on a part-time basis.  Turner is another talented young coach, organized, manages, can X & O in addition, he provides mentorship to his players that don’t exist with most coaches these days.
